Our team comes from diverse backgrounds and has many years experience in the spa and wellness industries:

The team consists of Sheila Otieno-Osanya who has 16 years experience in Hotel & Spa Management & Spa Consulting.

Sheila Otieno-Osanya

Sheila Otieno-Osanya grew up and was educated in Kenya and in the UK where she completed her ‘A’ levels. She obtained a tertiary education in Hotel Management in Switzerland, where she attended the Swiss Hotel Association Hotel Management School, Les Roches.

Once qualified, she returned to Mombasa, Kenya, where she specialized in restaurant management and hotel operations. In 2000 she moved to Zanzibar where she managed a 90 room, 5 star resort for a year. In 2001 Sheila relocated to South Africa to join Recreation Africa Leisure Industries in the capacity of Deputy General Manager at the Misty Hills Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa in Johannesburg. Her responsibilities included the development of the Spa in the Country at Misty Hills and this involvement allowed her to discover her passion for the spa industry.

In April 2004 Sheila decided to devote her career exclusively to spa management, and she was appointed Spa Director at Misty Hills. In August 2005, Sheila was offered an opportunity to become Spa Manager at the ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel (now the Westin Grand Cape Town Arabella Quays). After three successful years at the Westin, Sheila joined the Business for Wellness as a management consultant in August 2008.

In December 2008 Sheila decided to form her own spa consultancy – The Spa People – to provide clients with the benefit of her considerable experience in the industry.

After starting her own consultancy, Sheila completed the internal and lead auditors courses offered by TUV Rheinland, and is now a qualified expert for this international accreditation body. She has conducted several audits and now offers her services in assisting spas to implement management systems which benefit spas in the following ways:

• Increased employee involvement and retention
• Improved working conditions and public image (customers and suppliers)
• Improved customer satisfaction and reduction in number of complaints

In November 2015, an oppportunity arose for Sheila to open up her own spa in a 5 star boutique hotel in Sandton. The Spa at Marion on Nicol opened it’s doors to the public on February 1st 2016. Due to high rental costs, Sheila closed the Spa at Marion on Nicol on 31st August 2017 and is now focusing on her spa consulting business and raising her 5 year old twins.
