Our Team:

Our team comes from diverse backgrounds and has many years experience in the spa and wellness industries:

The team consists of Sheila Otieno-Osanya who has 16 years experience in Hotel & Spa Management & Spa Consulting and Leigh-Anne Wagner who has 13 years experience in Spa Management & Spa Consulting

Sheila Otieno-Osanya

Sheila studied Hotel Management in Switzerland. She moved back home to Kenya and worked in Mombasa, specializing in restaurant management, before being offered a position to manage a five star hotel in Zanzibar. She moved to South Africa in 2001 to join the Recreation Africa Group in the capacity of Deputy General Manager at the Misty Hills Country Hotel in Johannesburg. It is there that she developed her interest in spas – focusing on developing their spa which, in turn, led her to decide she would specialize entirely in spa management. In April 2004 she was appointed Spa Director for the Spa in the Country. She joined the ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel (now the Westin Grand Cape Town Arabella Quays) as Spa Manager in August 2005. She joined the Business for Wellness as a management consultant in August 2008. She then decided to freelance within the spa industry from December 2008.

Sheila was a finalist in the category of Business Woman of the Year selected by the Mogale City Chamber of Commerce in 2004. She has spoken at Professional Beauty and Les Nouvelles Conferences. While at the Westin Grand, the spa won the award for Hotel/ Resort Spa 2006. Sheila is actively involved on the board of the South African Spa Association as well as being a qualified lead auditor for the industry.

Leigh-Anne Wagner

Leigh-Anne, a qualified beauty therapist, began her career as a spa therapist with Steiner Transocean (Pty) Ltd. She worked her way up to Spa Director of Operations in less than two years, and worked in this position for a further 4 years. Some of her responsibilities included operational requirements for new spas, operating standards, policies and procedures, sound financial operations in order to meet budgets, overseeing the management of 7 spas, staff and management team development, marketing and PR, staff training and administration.

In 2004 Leigh-Anne returned to South Africa and assisted in the setup of Pezula Spa and Gym in Knysna. She managed the spa for a year and a half. During this time the spa won two local awards, the Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Spa of the Year, Professional Beauty Best Spa in the Western Cape as well as Spa of the Year Overall. Internationally the Spa was voted number one in the Conde Nast Spa of the year 2005. Pezula Spa & Gym was also the first Spa in South Africa to make it to Leading Spas of the World.

After her term at Pezula Spa & Gym, she went on to manage the Altira Spa at the Western Cape Hotel and Spa, where she was actively involved with the major refurbishment of the spa in May 2006, with South Africa’s first ever 2 hour Rain Forest water experience.

In November 2006, Leigh-Anne headed up the Spa/Leisure Division of Blueprint Hospitality as Director. She broke away to start her own consulting company ‘Esprit Spa/Leisure Concepts’ which was successfully operational from April 2007. Some of her clients included the Saxon Hotel & Spa, Houghton Spa & Gym, Escape to Life Spa development and Molori Safari Lodge & Spa. She joined The Spa People in January 2009.
